Welcome to the Bacchus Wine Half Marathon and 10K, a celebration of award-winning English wine, fine food, fancy dress, music ... and a little bit of running. We had a record field for the event in 2024 with both the 10K and Half Marathon selling out some weeks before race date.
If you are not familiar with Bacchus and have stumbled across us, read on for details of what you can expect. Although our ethos is very much that of a 'fun run', Bacchus is a still a real running race with all the trappings of a professionally organised event: an accurate, well-marked course, fabulous medal, chip timing and full medical support, but in many ways the running is the least important part of the day. The course, which weaves in and out of Denbies Vineyard and sections of the North Downs, is stunningly beautiful but tremendously challenging too. Fast times are difficult at best, but your other impediment to a fast time is the wine, and if you are really entering into the spirit of Bacchus the fancy dress. It's quite difficult trying to run quickly in a wedding dress or carrying an inflatable dinosaur.
The event car parks are within the grounds of Denbies Vineyard, Dorking, RH5 6AA. We will be using two main car parks with a third as an over-spill car park. Car parking is free to all competitors and spectators.
The two main car parks are at the front of the Denbies estate immediately after you drive into the property. We will be using both car parks concurrently to limit queues and prevent congestion on the roads. Our car parking marshals will direct you to the appropriate car park, please follow their instructions. Both car parks are about five minutes walk from the start/finish area and Denbies main building so there is no particular advantage of one over the other..
You can also get to the vineyard via public transport. Dorking Station and Box Hill & Westhumble Station are both a short walk from the vineyard so perfect to ensure you are not tempted to drink and drive!
Exit Dorking Station onto Station Approach Road. As you walk towards the A24 (London Road) you will see on the right-hand side of the road an underpass which you will need to take to cross the main road. Exiting the underpass turning right follow London Road all the way up to the roundabout where you will see the entrance to Denbies Wine Estate. (It is less than 1K in distance).
Exit Box Hill & Westhumble Station turning right onto Westhumble Street. Follow Westhumble Street until the end where you reach the A24 (London Road). Turn right and follow London Road all the way down until you see the vineyard over the hedges on your right. There is then a small footpath on your right which you can take to lead you into the Wine Estate. (It is less than 2K in distance).
